The profession of corporate contributions or corporate citizenship is often misunderstood. Many people assume our sole function is to give away money and nothing more.

To the contrary, corporate citizenship, as those of us who have practiced it know, extends so far beyond simply handing over a check. Professionals in this field are tasked with developing programs that can both shape the public image of a company as well as the corporate culture within the company.

Furthermore, the corporate citizenship professional must work with and through virtually every department within a company to accomplish their job effectively.  Whether it is coordinating with operations to deliver aid supplies during disaster relief, developing programs with HR programs to increase employee satisfaction and loyalty or facilitating positive publicity with the communications department – the corporate citizenship professional must be the ultimate definition of a team player.
